LUSHIN DUBEY did her M.Sc. in 'Childhood and Special Education' in the U.S. after an MA in History from Delhi University. Subsequently she was deeply involved in teaching mentally challenged kids in the U.S. and then at the American Embassy school, in Delhi. Her connection with theatre started in school and she received formal training in this through her high school and college years, working with Barry John's Theatre Action Group. In 1987 she set up 'Kidsworld' with her cousin Bubbles Sabharwal. They pioneered kids theatre in India and have staged over 30 productions in English and Hindi. In 1995 she was instrumental in setting up 'United Players Guild' and staged several Shakespearean productions playing the lead. In 1999 she co-produced Othello, playing the role of Desdemona, which went on to win the Edinburgh Fringe First award in Scotland, UK. In 2002 she produced and directed The Life of Gautam Buddha along with Bubbles. Her two solos, Untitled and Bitter Chocolate directed by Arvind Gaur and her recent production Muskaan - a journey of two people living with HIV, have been staged in institutions such as the World Bank (Washington DC), The Smithsonian, Berkeley, Harvard, Stanford and several NGOs overseas, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland, and at the Nehru Center, UK. Last year she also played Lady Macbeth in Macbeth directed by Alyque Pudumsee. Lushin has acted the lead in several TV serials and films and was last year awarded the Gemini Award in Toronto, Canada, (the equivalent of the Emmy in the US) for her role in the film, Murder Unveilled.


Writer-diplomat PAVAN K. VARMA is a graduate in History from St. Stephen's College, New Delhi. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1976. He has been Press Secretary to the President of India, the spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs, Joint Secretary for Africa, High Commissioner for India in Cyprus and director of the Nehru Centre in London. A writer of depth and insight, he has written over a dozen books including the highly successful Krishna: The Playful Divine on India's most popular deity, the critically applauded biography of the Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib, Ghalib: The Man, The Times, and Havelis of Old Delhi. His first book on a contemporary subject was the path breaking The Great Indian Middle Class, followed by the astoundingly successful Being Indian: The Truth About Why the 21st Century Will Be India's (Viking/Penguin 2004), described by The Economist as ' one of the most subtle recent attempts to analyse the continent-sized mosaic of India and simplify it for the general reader.' It was soon published by William Heinemann, in the United Kingdom, as Being Indian: Inside the Rea/India in March 2005. The Japanese, Spanish, French and Portuguese translations of this book were very well received. Being Indian has also had a successful run in its Hindi edition; a Bangla translation is due soon. His latest work is a witty adaptation of Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra. This volume, Kama Sutra: The Art of Making Love to a Woman, was published early in 2007 by Roli Books and has been translated into French and German. He is also researching for a forthcoming book on the pivotal issues of culture and identity. He was conferred an honorary doctoral degree for his contribution to the fields of diplomacy, literature, culture and aesthetics by the University of Indianapolis in 2005. A widely admired public speaker, Pavan K. Varma is currently the Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, New Delhi. 


NICHOLAS KHARKONGOR has been working in the theatre for the last 11 years, essentially as a playwright and a director. He is also an operatic tenor, trained under tenor Hur Chul-Young and soprano Situ Singh Buehler. 

ASHISH PALIWAL is an actor, a woman and a voice-over artist, okay just kidding about the woman part. Don't wait till you find out, just see his photo. Having worked and trained with one of the finest teachers for voice and physical theatre Rashid Ansari, Ashish has spent a good amount of time both in and behind the scenes. You just don't expect this pint-sized dynamite to have the voice that he does, and neither do others. And then the animation characters start living with his work. Pali has voiced a number of radio and television commercials and toon characters.Pali likes to live life a little on the 'aware' side, aware that ... oh my god, something is burning on the ironing-stand .... while he goes angling in Kashmir. 

SHENA GAMAT has worked as a performer in a variety of plays in the Delhi theatre circuit. She recently made her directorial debut with the dance-theatre production, The Pink Balloon. She is part of Rashid Ansari's theatre movement group, 'The Mobius Strip'. 

A teacher for 20 years, ANDREW HOFFLAND began his love affair with the stage at the age of 7. As a child and youth, he has lived in England, China & Russia and this shaped him into an adaptive, observant person with fine mimicry ability. He has sung and acted in various musical productions in Delhi, Andrew has been involved in play reading programmes, is a voice-over artist for various TV channels, has acted in a TV programme. He has always enjoyed using his knack of mimicking various accents and even been a puppeteer with a pilot for a programme based on the muppets. This is his first crack at 'real' theatre, as he knows it. The journey has been long, but fun!

Nepalese by family lineage, born in Calcutta and a citizen of India, LOUIZ BANKS is the man behind the lilting, haunting, musical score of the much talked about Mile Sur Mera Tumhara trilogy that made it big on the small screen; his inspiring melody for our most revered athletes, Spread the Light of Freedom. He is remembered by all those who have heard the tune, even today. Louiz is a versatile composer, jazz improviser, pianist and keyboard player who specializes in live acoustic and electronic performances covering all genres of music from popular to mainstream/ modern progressive/ World Music, Contemporary jazz and Indo Jazz Fusion.

Founder and Artistic Director of ‘THE DANCEWORX’ Performing Arts Academy, ASHLEY LOBO has trained in Classical Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary styles of dance for over 5 years and performed in several musicals in Australia. Theatrical works overseas include: The Nutcracker (Ballet Theatre Queensland, Brisbane), The Wiz (Barre Theatre Co., Sydney) and West Side Story (Barre Theatre Co., Sydeny)

MARTAND KHOSLA graduated with a Diplom a in architecture from the Architectural Association, London in 2001. After working briefly in London at Allies and Morrison, he returned to India to help set up 'Romi Khosla Design Studios' in New Delhi. Over the past 5 years, Romi Khosla Design Studios has been involved in designing a wide range of projects, varying from small events and stage backdrops to mid-sized townships across India.
Martand regularly participates in international ideas competitions to further push the theoretical and conceptual aspect of architecture that interest him. His work has been published extensively in India and abroad. He has delivered a number of lectures on his work and contemporary architecture in India and Europe.
